You have a newborn in the family. Not only are all the adults excited, but the newborn’s siblings are likely to be ecstatic about the new addition. A good sibling bond is something that will last for life. Start their bonding early by including them in the newborn activities.
If you’re getting a newborn photoshoot done, it’s the perfect time to include the other kids to strengthen that sibling bond. Here are some tips on how you can incorporate siblings in newborn photoshoots!
Cuddling with the Newborn
The best shot to take between the newborn and their siblings are one where they are cuddling. Some kids are always very excited to welcome a new member into the family. Especially when they can feel they’re the older sibling and now have someone they can play with and take care of.
Not many toddlers will cooperate easily in overhead shots, mainly because it isn’t something they’re used to. Add up some rolled-up blankets under them to rest their head on to make them more comfortable. Have the older child cuddle their newborn sibling. You’ll see why people think of it as cuteness overload.

One with the Parents
Not all kids are welcoming, though, especially when they feel the attention is being taken away from them. Newborn photoshoots with siblings can help lay roots for a bond between the children. When they aren’t as welcoming or comfortable, it’s best to include the parents.
Parents can both hold each child, and if there are more than two, the older kids can lean on the parents when looking at their siblings. Parental attention, in this case, will also go a long way to positively reinforce a relationship between the new siblings.
Incorporate Props
If the ages of the siblings make it difficult to get flokati shots or the classic holding the newborn in their lap shots, props can help. Prop up the newborn on a beanbag or any comfortable prop and have the sibling pose next to it.
This is also a safer route to take for the newborn when the older sibling finds it difficult to prop the baby up themselves. You can ask the older ones to smile at the baby, talk to them, or give them a little kiss on the forehead. Every picture will come out more adorable than the last one!

Let Them Interact Naturally
Younger children will find it hard to pose as directed. Let them act naturally with the baby. This will lead to some beautiful candid shots between the siblings you can cherish for life.
And if they ever fight in the future, whip out the pictures to remind them of the closeness that has been there from the start.
