Handling one newborn is no easy feat. Imagine you had two! Well, that’s a reality for a lot of photographers and parents. In Canada, there are more than 4,000 sets of twins born each year. Two sets of clothes, two sets of shoes, and more. But there’s no need for two newborn photoshoots.

Capturing these fleeting and tender moments of a child is already a heartfelt thing; you’ll now be able to capture the moments twice! Here are some creative photoshoot ideas you can use for twins!

Place Them Next to Each Other

Twins could be either identical or fraternal. Stacking them next to each other will highlight the similarities and differences between the two. Newborn twins also have spent nine months next to each other. They still find comfort in each other even outside the protection of their mother’s belly.

Stacking them next to each other will keep them comfortable and make it easier to photograph them. That is why this is also the go-to pose when photographing newborn twins.

Holding the Babies Side by Side

A creative way to incorporate parents in the newborn twin photoshoot is for each parent to hold a child in their arms side by side.

A parent can hold the babies on top of each other in their arms while the other parent cradles their partner gently from behind. You need to work quickly with this one to prevent putting too much weight on one baby. Not to mention your arms will probably get tired as well.

Always Use Soft Props

When working with babies, safety and comfort are key. You can never be too careful with newborns, and you now have two to photograph. It often happens that when one baby starts to cry, the other follows suit. So, the babies need to be well-fed and comfortable.

Select soft blankets and wraps. Swaddling up a newborn will let them feel like they’re in their mother’s womb. This can help prevent crying and make it easier to photograph them.

Using Contrasting Settings

Twins aren’t always both boys and both girls. Sometimes you have one of each. So how better to show it than to use contrasting props and costumes. Putting the babies in different coloured hats and props will make for some adorable and different photos.

Some people don’t like flashy themes and props. If you’re also looking for a classier way to show the difference among the newborns, you can put the newborn baby girl in a subtle headband. The headband can also be adorned with flowers or butterflies.

Include the Siblings

You don’t need to limit the involvement to only parents. If the newborns have siblings, including them can give you some memorable pictures of all your children together! This also helps the older siblings bond with the new ones.
