1. Get Some Basic Shots First
Before you have introduced the cake, get your baby to sit behind the cake when he/she is excited to see the cake. This is the start of the event and the baby is clean and ready to dig in. This will make for a great photo if you are planning to make a before and after picture collage.
Make sure the camera is already ready so that you don’t miss the first few moments of cuteness.
1. Frosting
The last thing you need on your birthday is a choking hazard. Make sure the cake’s frosting is not made from fondant. Additionally, a cake with frosting can have a more ‘smashing’ effect when the baby gets their hands on it.
2. Parental Assistance
Babies can get distracted very easily and if the baby can walk, they may not stick to one spot and will constantly move, which can be very challenging.
The parents must provide assistance in the form of clapping and cheering for their baby and be with them constantly and possibly guide them through the entire photoshoot.
3. Have a Very Fast Shutter Speed
The shutter speed of your camera decides the amount of time your camera lens is exposed to light. If you have a very fast shutter speed, for example, 1/250 then you can quickly capture photos of the baby whenever they do something adorable.
Make sure there is a lot of light present in your surroundings if you have increased your shutter speed, otherwise the pictures can turn out to be very dark.
4. What If The Baby Doesn’t Want to Smash the Cake?
When all is set and done but the baby doesn’t want to play with the cake, don’t rush them. Give them a few minutes to play around and get familiarized. If that doesn’t work, then put some piece of cake on the baby’s hand and see if that gets them interested in the idea.
