Taking pictures, be it just for ourselves or to post on social media, makes us feel good and gives us a much-needed confidence boost. But during quarantine, many of us were stuck indoors, and thus, we have quickly run out of creative ideas for home-based photoshoots. To remedy that, here are some DIY ideas you can use for home photoshoots. These can work great for individual shots and can also be used to create stunning pregnancy or newborn photoshoots.
Use Props
Props are a great way to add interest and texture to your pictures. And if you think that there aren’t any cute props lying around that can make your photoshoots interesting, you don’t need to worry! There are plenty of things that we see daily that can be converted into incredible props. Mirrors, for example, can become incredible assets during photography sessions, particularly if they are available in fun shapes. You could recreate those very popular duality photos where the subject is doing one thing while the reflection is doing another.
Similarly, simple plain bedsheets can be converted into amazing backdrops. You could also create a flower wall in front of the plain white sheet to create an interesting backdrop. Pictures with these flower walls or wearing clothes with fake ornamental flowers are pretty popular in pregnancy shoots.
Modify Lighting
Controlling lighting is one of the easiest ways to add personality to a picture. All you need to do is use a bunch of fairy lights, candles, strip lights, or whatever you have on hand to create a bokeh effect. You could also cover the light with colored cellophane to create tinted lights, or you could shine lights through different stencils to create diverse effects.
Utilize Your Bathtub
Bathtub photographs have always been extremely popular, but you don’t necessarily have to go down the same route as everyone else. You could simply fill your bathtub with fake flowers and lie in it or go the traditional milk and rose petal route.
Add a Little Bit of Lace
Lace often has intricate details and casts a delicate reflection when light is passed through it, and it also serves as a great backdrop. If you don’t want to do either of those things, you can always dress in lace and silk. After all, many maternity photoshoots do feature lace and tulle dresses.
